ABSTRACT

Since Covid-19 is an enduring disease that pushed the world to reshape business strategies to overcome the unprecedented situations in all sectors such as the sports industry. Although substantial research has been carried out to inspect this phenomenon globally. Nevertheless, how entrepreneurial initiatives can contribute to tackling the situation is still lacking. This study attempts to uncover the relationships between entrepreneur psychological capital (EPC) and business sustainable performance (BSF). Second, this study strives to reveal the relationships between employee wellbeing (EWb) and BSP. In addition, education is treated as a moderating factor to unfold the relationships among factors, i.e., EPC, EWb, and BSF. Data were collected from eight hundred (n = 800) participants who were associated with the Chinese sports industry from March to July 2022. The results demonstrated interesting and fruitful findings based on SEM statistical model. First, a positive connection was found between EPC and BSF. Second, it found a positive link between EWb and BSF. Finally, the study highlighted a significant moderating impact of education among implicit relationships, i.e., EPC, EWb, and BSF. This study provides insights into entrepreneurship, entrepreneur psychological capital, and employee wellbeing on how it can optimize the performance of a business during and post-Covid-19 era. Besides, certain shortcomings along with future potential lines are reported for future researchers. © 2023 The Author(s). Published by Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted education systems worldwide, and as we navigate the post-pandemic period, schools have been predicted to face diverse challenges. Specially, private schools in rural areas of developing countries often operate on small budgets and rely heavily on student fees to sustain their operations. Their challenges are supposed to be bigger. This study aimed to explore the subjective experiences of 14 entrepreneurs-cum-principals (ECPs) from 14 private kindergarten schools in rural Bangladesh, in terms of the post-pandemic school challenges they faced and strategies to overcome them. The study utilised a qualitative approach employing phenomenological inquiry within an interpretivist paradigm. Data were collected through participant observation notes, school documents, and semi-structured interviews. The data were analysed following Auerbach and Silverstein's coding methods, resulting in themes emerging regarding the challenges the ECPs faced and the strategies they adopted to overcome them. The findings are discussed, and recommendations are made. © 2023 ASPE.

ABSTRACT

PurposeEntrepreneurial communication describes the communication activities of entrepreneurs and is an essential tool for entrepreneurs to build relationships. However, there is a lack of research regarding how entrepreneurs adapt their communication styles in times of crisis. Nevertheless, entrepreneurial communication during a crisis is essential because entrepreneurs must continue communicating with their stakeholders and be visible. In this regard, communication has the central aim of preventing the startup from suffering any damage that may result from the crisis. Thus, the present paper explores potential shifts in the communication styles of entrepreneurs during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThe authors examined the digital footprints of 780 entrepreneurs based in the USA on the social network Twitter. This study used a longitudinal dataset with the software Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) to analyze 110,283 tweets sent pre-crisis and during the first wave of COVID-19.FindingsThe results of the exploratory analysis revealed a connection between crisis and both analytical thinking and emotional responses. In the case of emotions, the results also suggest that entrepreneurs who had already received funding from venture capital investors remained emotionally robust during the crisis, as evidenced by the expression of more positive emotions compared to entrepreneurs without funding.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the understanding of entrepreneurial communication and adds the context of an exogenous shock to this research stream. Furthermore, this study highlights the effects of venture funding on the digital communication style of entrepreneurs, especially in the context of expressed emotions, and suggests emotional robustness for these entrepreneurs.

ABSTRACT

E-commerce sites are flourishing nowadays in lockdown. A lot of entrepreneurs are making their own sites and selling them online. In 2020, one of INTERPOL's private sector partners detected 907,000 spam messages, 737 malware incidents, and 48,000 malware URLs connected to COVID-19 during the period from January to April. 'Cybercriminals are developing and boosting their attacks at an alarming pace, exploiting the fear and uncertainty caused by the unstable social and economic situation created by COVID-19.' states Jürgen Stock, INTERPOL Secretary General. The main threats during this pandemic are Malware/Ransomware(36%), Phishing/Scam(59%), Fake News(14%) and Malicious Domains(22%). Cybercriminals are active in these pandemic times and the developers designing stunning user interfaces without basic cybersecurity knowledge is a great attraction for these criminals. Our goal is to explain how easily hackers gain access by selecting 10 top vulnerabilities from OWASP and exploiting them. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has weakened the economy leading to massive unemployment and entire industries being put on lockdown. With millions of Americans either unemployed or underemployed, many turned to new business ventures. Whether starting their own company as an entrepreneur or serving a gig worker on a variety of service platforms, workers found creative ways to either enter or remain in the workforce. Understanding the motivations, opportunities, success rates and outcomes of these new business ventures are important for future entrepreneurs and industry experts. This chapter investigates the role of the gig economy and entrepreneurial activity during the Covid-19 pandemic. A literature review is conducted, and an employment survey of gig workers is conducted and analyzed. Workers' motivations, industry statistics, business funding opportunities, goals of these workers and industry implications are discussed and analyzed. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022. ABSTRACT

Today, the world is witnessing a massive transformation in all spheres of activity as a result of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognising opportunities is more crucial than ever. The purpose of this article is to analyse the impact of social capital (SC) on the opportunity recognition (OR) of micro-entrepreneurs through entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The study is in line with the social cognitive theory. Furthermore, the study analyses the influence of gender and type of business on SC, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and OR. Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey among micro-entrepreneurs in Kerala, India. Independent sample Z-test and structural equation modeling were used to analyse the data. The results reveal that entrepreneurial self-efficacy mediates the relationship between SC and OR. Sobel test was used to reaffirm the mediation effect. This study provides suggestions for enhancing entrepreneurial self-efficacy to better identify opportunities in today's ever-changing global business environment. © 2023 The Association for Social Economics.

ABSTRACT

This article analyzes the treatment that the new Science, Technology and Innovation Framework from Parana State, Brazil, MCTI/PR, gives to the cultural digital entrepreneur. Enacted during the Covid-19 pandemic and not yet fully regulated, the MCTI/PR is presented as a complete and innovative legal solution for the industrial and innovation policies of a federative entity. In turn, digital cultural entrepreneurs operate in an important part of the economy, the so-called creative economy. However, it is clear that the development of the creative economy in Brazil is restricted to certain urban centers. Therefore, the present paper is based on the following observation: considering the existence of a potential development of creative economy in a state which is not a protagonist in this field in Brazil, does the MCTI/PR have legal tools and institutes which are apt to promote its development? With this objective in mind, this work presents the Concepts of Creative Economy, digital cultural entrepreneur and data referring to the situation of a certain group of these entrepreneurs. Afterwards, we present an evaluation of the MCTI/PR institutes applicable to the legal status of the cultural digital entrepreneurs. As a result, we found a narrowing of the scope of innovation policies to strictly technological economic activities and the possibility of indirect incentives from the regulation of University Support Foundations, which limits the development alternatives of this group.

ABSTRACT

The Oriented Productive Microcredit is an incentive to the development of entrepreneurs through financing to promote productive activities. This subsidizes consumption, business development, well-being, education and technology, having business orientation as an essential factor. Attention to this relevant and fragile segment is growing, among other factors, due to public policies to alleviate the vulnerability of microenterprises through actions to combat COVID-19. Therefore, this article as a basic, descriptive and qualitative research, aims to analyze the OPM as a public policy, specifically to evaluate the program as a strategy for Sustainable Development. Finally, the result defined that the OPM is a public policy that contributes to the SD.

ABSTRACT

The entrepreneur's trust is a reference point for the success of an organization because it provides security for both the company and for people to take risks. Therefore, the entrepreneur must be prepared to reinvent himself when the need arises. Since it started, the Covid-19 pandemic has required the adoption of drastic measures for companies to survive the economic crisis. To help with solutions in atypical and radical scenarios like this one, the organizational life cycle can be related to business trust. Thus, the objective of this research is to analyze the confidence index of micro and small entrepreneurs in relation to the phases of the life cycle in which companies are found and analyze how this index can affect the local market. Therefore, a survey was carried out with the companies, the research is quantitative in terms of approach and descriptive in terms of objectives. Data were treated using descriptive statistics, ANOVA and ANACOR tests. As a result of the data collected, the economic information of the analyzed companies pointed to the beginning of a crisis, in view of the variable that points to confidence in the future, which averaged 32.54%.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the support and impede factors of entrepreneurial activities amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. By using the qualitative method, 18 in-depth interviews were conducted with entrepreneurs operating micro-, small- and medium-scale enterprises. Interviews were transcribed for content analysis to generate themes using NVivo 12. COVID-19 has adversely affected the entrepreneurial activity in Pakistan was a key theme found after analysis. Three main categories were found as situations provoking business decline and their manifestation, entrepreneurial actions and reactions to COVID-19 crisis, and their futuristic plans amidst COVID-19. This research highlights issues entrepreneurs face to follow protocols of lockdown, social distancing, and operational hours. The findings of this study contribute to the scholarship of entrepreneurship and areas for the empirical investigation to develop efficient ecosystems to support entrepreneurs. This study suggests government and non-government stakeholders devise strategies for entrepreneurial revival post-COVID-19. This is probably one of the first qualitative assessment of the likely effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on entrepreneurship. It also recommends interesting related research areas and suggestions on how to empower entrepreneurs to overcome it. (c) 2021 The Authors. ABSTRACT

Street-level bureaucrats are often grassroots officials, and they are regarded as passive practitioners of policy with no authority to change policy or innovate, while policy entrepreneurs are usually high-level officials. Based on observations of China's responses to two national crises, this study found that the times do make a hero. When acting as innovative frontline technocrats, major transboundary crisis practitioners, and management savvy operators within the top-down bureaucracy, street-level bureaucrats can become policy entrepreneurs. To innovate and drive policy change, street-level policy entrepreneurs will adopt innovative strategies. They will make efficient use of their expertise and discretion, integrate various resources, strive for attention from superiors, consolidate their achievements, and expand their influence. © 2023 Policy Studies Organization.

ABSTRACT

Despite years of research, scholars still have a limited understanding of the factors that lead individuals to start their own businesses. Drawing upon the crisis decision theory (CDT), the theory of planned behavior (TPB), the entrepreneurial event model (EEM), and previous research on entrepreneurial intentions (EIs), this study investigates the impact of a set of predictors (i.e., perceived crisis severity, entrepreneurial disposition, support from family/friends, university affiliation, gender, year of study, work experience, presence of a role model, and completion of an entrepreneurship class) on the outcome variable (i.e., EIs) of Generation Z in a highly tourism-dependent transitional economy. Pearson's correlation and multiple regression were employed to analyze the data collected in May/June 2020 via a self-administered questionnaire from 300 tourism and hospitality students enrolled at five public universities in Croatia. The results indicate that entrepreneurial disposition, work experience, and gender are directly related to EI. The perceived crisis severity does not affect EI. These findings contribute to filling gaps in the existing research on entrepreneurship during major crises, on EIs of Gen Z, on the role of perceived crisis severity in EIs, and on the state of EIs in mono-industrial (i.e., dominated by one industry) crony capitalist ex-communist economies. © 2023 by the author.

ABSTRACT

This book focuses on the progress of G20 members on entrepreneurship services since the G20 Entrepreneurship Action Plan was issued at the G20 Hangzhou Summit in China. The authors analyse the similarities and differences of policy measures taken by G20 members from five aspects of entrepreneurship services: government services, fiscal and financial supports, entrepreneur services, entrepreneurship education, and fair competition for SMEs. The book aims to bridge academic research with the multilevel and diverse practice in entrepreneurial activities and explores how national policies and conditions can promote entrepreneurship among G20 members. This book will inspire the policy- makers, stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystems and scholars on entrepreneurship research as well, on how to promote the entrepreneurship as an effective way to stimulate employment growth, boost innovation development, and realize economic recovery in the post- COVID-19 era. © Tsinghua University Press 2022. ABSTRACT

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has had diverse effects on the population and businesses. Due to their low visibility, there is a significant knowledge gap for the scientific community regarding the situation of South American entrepreneurship during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this systematic review aims to answer the following research questions: What scientific evidence is available on entrepreneurship in South America during the COVID-19 pandemic? From which countries do the studies originate? What conclusions do they present, and what lessons can be learned from them? The Scopus and Scielo databases were explored in this systematic review. Due to the diversity of languages in which articles from this region are published, searches were conducted in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. In each case, we searched for results containing the words COVID-19 and entrepreneurship (emprendimiento in Spanish, empreendedorismo in Portuguese) in the title, , or keywords. The initial search produced 783 records, which were filtered based on seven criteria, resulting in 15 articles. The final articles identified had corresponding authors affiliated with South American institutions. We conclude that, in South America, some entrepreneurs recognize the importance of maintaining the economic stability of their employees and communities in addition to sustaining their businesses. Their actions serve as case studies of resilience and perseverance in adverse circumstances. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

Since 2019, the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has hit the whole world significantly and has been one of the worst nightmares for us. Single mother entrepreneurs have been one of the most affected groups due to COVID-19, and this group's gradual implementation of technology is called for. This article aims to determine the pandemic's implications for SMPs and whether they have taken any new strategies or changes for the survival of their business. Adopting a qualitative research approach, an open group discussion has been conducted at Padang Jawa, Klang. A total of seven SMPs have been interviewed. The COVID-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) impacts on single mother entrepreneurs and strategies have been divided into two sections: the entrepreneur's perspective on COVID-19 and their current view and approach to facing the pandemic. © School of Engineering, Taylor's University.

ABSTRACT

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is widely spread, not only multi-sectoral, but also across many fields, especially in socio-economic life and institutions of the communities. The purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of building a spirit of social entrepreneurship and the institutional environment to accelerate economic recovery and growth caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method used a mixed methods research design. Qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis was used through exploratory and explanatory designs. The main data source is primary data obtained through a survey of social entrepreneurship actors in various regions in Indonesia. The main contribution is to provide a conceptual model that integrates the spirit of social entrepreneurship (SSE) into new institutional economic theory (NIE). The results of the study concluded that the role of social entrepreneurship (SE) and the institutional environment has not been optimized to support economic growth. Hence, there is a need for a spirit and existing institutional environment quality to encourage sustainable economic growth. Without a strong spirit and encouragement from the quality of the institutional environment which has political authority, the SE will be difficult to become a formal and strong entrepreneurial and cultural economic movement. © 2022 WITPress.
